Caramel Glaze for Cakes
| Servings: makes 3/4 cup | Prep. Time: 5 min prep 10 min cook |
"To glaze" means to cover food with a mixture, often liquid, which hardens, becomes glossy, and gives an attractive finish to either hot or cold dishes.
Hot meats and vegetables are glazed with either stock, or other juices, thickened. Cold foods can be glazed with aspic, gelatins, mayo or white sauce.
Cakes are glazed with mixtures like frostings, except thinner.
Ingredients
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. lemon juice
Directions
Heat over a low heat until sugar melts and turns golden brown. Remove from heat immediately, and spoon or drizzle over pastries, cake or cup cakes.
NOTE* This would go well on an angel cake, in between cake layers, or on one layer cakes.
