Maple Syrup Frosting
This is an old timey type recipe. People used maple syrup and molasses as the sweetner in cakes and pies, before sugar was plentiful. A different type of icing, I bet it would be good on a spice cake! This recipe is so old, syrup is spelled sirup.
Cooked Carmel Icing
This is a recipe that takes considerable time, but worth the extra effort for special holidays. It makes a spectacular statement for a buffet table. Goes on jam cake, spice cake, really sweet.
Old Fashioned Seafoam Frosting
This was the one that was on the spice cake, the jam cake, and any other special cake we had at Holiday time! It was also called boiled frosting and was used on burnt sugar cakes, too.
You will love it! Dark brown sugar will make it really dark and rich, but light brown works, too.
